About Stella

Stella Oni is a British Nigerian crime fiction author. Her debut novel, Deadly Sacrifice, is a police procedural introducing detective Toks Ade – the first Black female police detective in UK fiction. The novel was shortlisted for the SI Leeds Literary Prize and selected as an Audible Crime and Thriller pick. Her short fiction also features in anthologies such as the Anthony award nominated Midnight Hour (Crooked Lane).

Stella works as a technical writer and teaches creative writing as a guest lecturer at Cambridge University (PACE), where she runs crime writing and storytelling workshops. She was a Jhalak Prize judge (2024) and is an International Thriller Writers judge.

As a speaker, Stella appears regularly at literary festivals, crime conventions, and cultural events, where she discusses her writing, technology in storytelling, and her experiences as a British Nigerian author.

She hosts the podcast Talking Tech with Creatives, where she interviews authors, industry leaders, and entrepreneurs on the role of technology in creativity, culture, and business. The show explores innovation, the arts, and practical tools for modern creatives.

Currently, Stella is writing book two of the Detective Toks Ade Mystery series and developing her new cosy-crime series, The London House Mystery, beginning with The Housekeeper’s Secret featuring cook/housekeeper and amateur sleuth Elizabeth Ojo. She also blogs about books, culture, and food, reflecting her passion for Nigerian cuisine and global culinary traditions.

She served as a founding board member of Sisters in Crime UK/EU chapter and serves as a board member of the Crime Writers’ Association(CWA). She is also a member of International Thriller Writers(ITW), Black Writers Guild(BWG), Society of Authors (SoA) and Crime Writers of Color(CWoC).
